The Harlem Renaissance produced many black political and social leaders and new methods of leaderships in black communities. Two important men that made an impact during this era were Marcus Garvey and W.E.B. Dubios. Garvey founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association which improved thousands of lives for blacks after the civil war. Dubois was the leading black politician and a philosopher during the Harlem Renaissance, he was the main leader of blacks during the 1920's. Most blacks moved to northern industrial cities after their freedom from slavery. The 1920's featured many movements to help blacks after the civil war such as the Civil Rights Movement and many artistic and literary movements.
